Interview with @HiJacStyle

What surprised me the most when I came across Jacqui's instagram feed was that whilst she looks like she is sponsored by big high street fashion brands such as Topshop and Zara, there is more to this lady than meets the eye. When you start to read her comments and tags however, you see that most of her clothes come from charity shops. This girl has an amazing eye for preloved finds and always looks so on trend and stylish. I am thrilled to have her on the blog sharing her top tips for charity shopping success!

When did you start buying clothes from charity shops?

I was 14 when I started, I loved quirky fashion inspired by the 60s and 70s era. Music was a big inspiration, particularly Debbie Harry and Nico. My friend and I would go to clusters of charity shops in Birmingham and we’d search out faux fur, vintage dresses, leather and suede vintage jackets etc. We wanted something different than from the mainstream high street clothes and we wanted authentic items that would suit our minimal budget.

What are your tips for charity shopping success?

I never pass a charity shop without going in if I can help it.
I have a ‘chazzer day’ every few weeks where I go to LOADS, I am ALWAYS successful.
Travel! I go out of my local area to mix things up a bit
I look in the men’s section and out of my usual size for slouchy fit pieces or items that I could alter.
I believe! I know there is treasure and it’s waiting to be found. You’ve got to be in it to win it!
What has been your best find?
I have LOTS but if I had to choose I’d say my vintage Christian Dior sequin dress  - it’s a bit special.
Is there one item that you regret not buying? The one that got away?

No regrets but I think that’s because I never leave anything behind, if I’m wavering I usually get it.

Who are your style icons?

Debbie Harry, Kate Moss, Alexa Chung

What is your best piece of advice for shopping your wardrobe?

I alter items to suit, whether that’s leg length, skirt length etc.
I check through my existing clothes to see if there’s items that have come back into fashion, colour/print etc
I find that an existing wardrobe can be freshened up with low cost accessories (eg berets!!! )

Thank you so much Jacqui! If you don't follow her already then check out Jacqui's Instagram account here.
